You can choose from a variety of boat options, long-tail boats, traditional wooden boats, or even floating restaurants. Tours often visit floating villages, markets, and bird-watching areas. How to get there ?

Siem Reap is the most common starting point for trips to the floating villages on Tonle Sap Lake, especially for tourists visiting Angkor Wat.

  • Tuk-tuk or Taxi 🛺🚕 : Hire a tuk-tuk or taxi from Siem Reap. This is a convenient option and can be arranged through your hotel or a local travel agency. Tuk-tuks are more economical, while taxis offer more comfort and speed.
  • Tour Packages : Book a guided tour, which usually includes round-trip transportation, a boat ride on the lake, and sometimes a meal. This option is hassle-free and informative.
  • Motorbike or Bicycle 🛵🚲 : For the adventurous, renting a motorbike or bicycle offers a unique way to explore the countryside en route to the lake.

Then at the arrival at the Boat Dock:

  • Depending on the chosen village, you will arrive at a designated boat dock. For example, Chong Kneas has a popular boat dock at Phnom Krom.
  • At the dock, you can purchase tickets for the boat ride to the floating village. Prices vary, and it is often recommended to negotiate or book in advance.

There are different villages you can choose to visit :

  • Chong Kneas : The closest and most touristy village, about 15 km from Siem Reap.
  • Kampong Phluk : A bit farther, around 30 km from Siem Reap, known for its stilt houses and flooded forests.
  • Kampong Khleang : The farthest at about 55 km from Siem Reap, less touristy and offers a more authentic experience.
